About Us

Splinters Carpentry and Joinery is the brainchild of Mick Derbyshire, Splinters' Managing Director. After completing his apprenticeship and a City & Guilds qualification in carpentry, Mick joined the army in his early twenties and served in the Royal Corp of Engineers all around the world for ten years. Whilst working in places such as Belize and Germany, he was dreaming about setting up Splinters when he left the army. So, once demobbed around the turn of the century, he moved to Newquay in Cornwall to be near his family and went about setting up Splinters.
